‘Patience’
Duckies all in a row.
New illus. blog entry: Woman. I get bored of the way I draw things-this is a quick sketch to shake it up a bit.
New Illus. blog entry: She sails to the island where there is no sorrow.
From sketch to finished version. A frame I did for Shilo New York, for Venus, the sexiest feminine razor in town!
A city in summer, a city in love.
I wish it is summer where I am now. Drew these over and over for a job a few weeks back. Finished frames will be up on my folio site soon.
Cockatoos!
Two cockatoo sketches from Mount Franklin

Baby Seal and Mama
When she dived under the water for the first time, she felt free. All the fear and time worrying about the water and the cold fell away. She loved it.
Three Muses Encounter, New Orleans
So now that we are back in Melbourne, we try to post memorable bits from the trip, just so that we won’t forget it.
This one happened in Three Muses, a great cocktail/tapas bar on Frenchmen Street, New Orleans. It was our last day in NOLA, we were exhausted and decided to chill at the bar, listening to live music.
The guy to our left, out of the blue, started talking to us, and before too long he’s revealed that he is a fan of the Asian female, and about to marry one from the Philippines in three weeks.
I couldn’t believe my luck. Thanks to Seeking Asian Female documentary I saw at SXSW, I now had the tools to really dig into the story behind this chap, pushing away the knee-jerk revulsion that usually comes in situations like this.
When asked why Asian female, his first answer was “Because they’re gorgeous!” and sought to knuckle-bump Mungo.
But then he then turned quite serious, and cited similar answers to those given by Steven Bolstad (the protagonist of the documentary). He believed they can give him happiness, because they’re nurturing and gentle.
His first marriage also fell apart (wife was an addict and left him eight years ago). One of his close friends married a lady from the Philippines and he asked her to introduce him to one of her friends from back home. And the rest is history. He said he would make sure she has friends (there is a sizeable Filipino community in New Orleans), and he would encourage her to find work that’s fulfilling, and so on.
I told him about the documentary, and how if there’s anything I can glean from watching it, it’s that he needs to be prepared to be patient. Cultural differences are bound to arise. Before we left, I wished him all the best.
This is how SAF doco has changed my attitude. Before, I would just dismiss him as ‘one of those men’. Now, I sincerely wish he would find the happiness and peace he longed for, in this new marriage.
More sketches from US Road trip.
I did these in the car too. The scenery and feel of the landscape changed dramatically as we entered Navajo nation. Cameron didn’t feel particularly friendly or welcoming, but Tuba city and Kayenta were fine.
Gym Mambo!
I couldn’t get the Gym Mambo of West Side Story’s movie version (the one with Rita Moreno, Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer and George Chakiris) outta my head. Here’s Riff dancing with his gal pal. Trying to keep the lines as rough and loose as possible to keep the sense of movement intact. I really have to get back to life drawing. Really missing it.
‘Storm’ : the sketch and the work in progress…
